Politics — Tinubu Reaffirms Reform Agenda

Abuja, May 18, 2026

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has once again urged Nigerians to remain patient as his administration pushes forward with sweeping economic reforms.

Speaking at the Africa CEO Forum, Tinubu emphasized that transparency and accountability remain the cornerstones of his government’s strategy to attract investment and stabilize the economy.

Tinubu acknowledged the frustrations of citizens facing rising living costs but insisted that reforms are necessary to secure Nigeria’s long‑term prosperity.

He pointed to recent successes, including nearly $20 billion in foreign direct investment secured this year, as evidence that international confidence in Nigeria is growing.

The president also addressed Nigeria’s youth, warning that their growing political influence means leaders must deliver tangible results or risk being voted out.

Analysts say this reflects Tinubu’s awareness of mounting pressure from civil society and opposition figures, who continue to criticize the pace of reforms.

Observers note that Tinubu’s remarks come at a critical time, with the ruling party preparing for internal primaries and opposition leaders positioning themselves for the 2027 presidential race.

The statement underscores both the challenges and opportunities facing Nigeria’s political landscape.
