The Nigeria women's basketball team, known as D'Tigress, has made history by becoming the first African nation (male or female) to reach the quarterfinals at the 2024 Paris Olympics.  They achieved this milestone with a 79-70 victory over Canada in their final Group B game. In this historic match, Ezinne Kalu led the team with an impressive 21 points, while Elizabeth Balogun contributed 14 points and three assists.  The team showed remarkable resilience, especially in the second half, where they outscored Canada 23-5 in the third quarter.   This victory follows their first Olympic basketball win in 20 years, which they secured in their opening game against Australia.
